COMPLETION OF THE FIRST COURSE FOR HUMANITARIAN DEMINING NATIONAL MONITORS IN 2022

On March 10th, 2022, the Group of Inter-American Technical Advisors in Colombia (GATI-CO), concluded the activities of the first Course for Humanitarian Demining National Monitors (CMNDH) of 2022. The instructions followed all protective measures against Covid-19, in accordance with the determinations of the General Command of the Military Forces (CGFM) and the School of Military Engineers (ESING). Eight military personnel were trained and certified as National Monitors, two from the Navy and six from the Colombian National Army.

The students received instruction and theoretical and practical assessments and participated in a seminar on Humanitarian Demining, which was attended by national and international institutions that are part of the Mine Action in Colombia. In addition, they participated in simulated exercises to monitor Humanitarian Demining operations, with situations similar to those currently occurring in Colombia.

The new National Monitors are trained to ensure that all actions of a Humanitarian Demining Organization are carried out in accordance with national and international standards.

The participation of the Technical Advisors of the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) has contributed to expanding the operational capacity of the Colombian military, to ensure that Colombia will be free of mines and explosive devices that kill and injure its population to this day.
