The curriculum of the Inter-American Defense College includes exercises, conferences and lectures in the field of disaster preparedness and mitigation. In particular, these programs include work with senior officials of governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which provide disaster relief assistance. Overall, this instruction provides the students with an understanding of essential requirements for the coordination and conduct of relief activities.

Communication:
The IADB assists to inform members of the IADB and member nations of the Organization of American States (OAS) about major disaster relief efforts. For example, during the Venezuela disaster, the IADB provided updates of significant relief efforts to inform and enhance support in this emergency situation. In the near future, the IADB will provide more information about disaster training and activities via its website. Current plans include a summary of lessons learned from previous experiences, a listing of operational guidelines, points of contact, and significant training events.
