On January 29, the Inter-American Defense Board (IADB) carried out its first Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Delegates of 2019, in order to receive the visit of the Honorable Minister of Defense of Haiti, Mr. Enold Joseph. The purpose of the visit was to present to the Council of Delegates the lines of action to comply with the mandate of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) 2018 (Resolution AG/2925), which deals with the implementation of the White Paper on Security and National Defense for the Sustainable Economic and Social Development of Haiti”.
In 2015, the IADB had the privilege of contributing to the preparation of this highest level document in the field of security and defense for the development of Haiti. Haiti became the nineteenth country in the Hemisphere to have a document of this nature.
Mr. Minister Joseph presented first-hand actions Haiti considers as priority in order to materialize the recommendations established in its White Paper that allow the Council of Delegates of the IADB, as well as all the members of this OAS Organization, to focus their efforts to continue working with the purpose of helping to promote and strengthen, increasingly, the confidence and hemispheric security.
With important approaches such as this, the IADB reaffirms its commitment to its Member States to provide technical, advisory and educational advisory services on issues related to military and defense matters in the Hemisphere to contribute to compliance with the OAS Charter.
